O ministro da Saúde, Alexandre Padilha, disse nesta quarta-feira (16) que os impactos das mudanças climáticas figuram como uma crise de saúde pública no Brasil e no mundo. Durante coletiva de imprensa, ele avaliou como urgente a necessidade de adaptação dos sistemas de saúde para enfrentar a questão. Padilha destacou que a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) prevê uma em cada quatro mortes registradas globalmente como relacionada, de alguma forma, às mudanças climáticas. Ele lembrou que o Reino Unido, por exemplo, já registra a presença do mosquito Aedes aegypti, vetor tipicamente presente em países tropicais como o Brasil. Questionado sobre a preparação da pasta para eventos climáticos como o que causou as graves inundações em Porto Alegre e em boa parte do território gaúcho, em 2024, Padilha avaliou que o país está mais bem preparado atualmente do que estava à época em que as chuvas devastaram o estado. “Mas todo cuidado é pouco”, avaliou. Ele destacou a necessidade de manutenção do estado de alerta e de vigilância, não apenas no Sul, mas em todas as regiões do país.
