O bloco de países europeus é formado por Islândia, Liechtenstein, Noruega e Suíça, que não são membros da União Europeia. Já o grupo sul-americano conta com Brasil, Argentina, Bolívia, Paraguai e Uruguai ─ a Venezuela segue suspensa como Estado-membro desde 2017. No plano jurídico, ele entrará em vigor a partir do dia 1º de outubro de 2026. O tratado prevê a ampliação do comércio e dos investimentos entre os dois blocos, com redução de barreiras técnicas, além de medidas sanitárias e fitossanitárias consideradas desnecessárias para o comércio. Além disso, prevê mais facilidades para procedimentos aduaneiros e maior acesso aos mercados de compras governamentais. Compromissos Assinado no dia 16 de setembro de 2025 pelo presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, o documento estabelece também compromissos nas áreas de propriedade intelectual, desenvolvimento sustentável, proteção ambiental, biodiversidade e direitos humanos. “Para o Brasil, o acordo amplia as possibilidades de entrada de produtos nacionais nos mercados dos países da EFTA e cria condições para o aumento dos fluxos de comércio e investimentos”, informou a Presidência da República. O acordo prevê também o reconhecimento e a proteção de indicações geográficas, mecanismo voltado à valorização de produtos vinculados a determinadas regiões de origem. Segundo o Planalto, as negociações entre os dois blocos foram concluídas em 2025, após dez rodadas iniciadas em 2017. O texto foi aprovado pelo Congresso Nacional em junho deste ano e ratificado pelo governo brasileiro em julho.
