Heavy rain triggered deadly floods and landslides across Nepal, while an avalanche left 12 workers missing.
At least two people had been killed and 14 remained missing after an avalanche at Nepal’s Himlung peak, an official said on Monday, as rescuers resumed their search. The avalanche swept through the base camp of the 7,126-metre (23,400-foot) peak near the Chinese border early on Sunday, burying tents under deep snow. “Two bodies were found as rescuers worked until 6pm last night,” said Tul Singh Gurung, president of the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association. “The search continues for 14...

Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah was applauded at the UN General Assembly after his speech on climate crisis.
Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah proposed a climate alliance with neighbouring India and China, urging action to protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem after catastrophic flooding across the region. “Glaciers and floods do not travel with stamps and passports,” Shah told world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. “As an urgent first step, we propose that we establish the Himalaya climate resilience mechanism, led by Nepal, India and China, so the Himalayas become a...
