Tennessee execution team members failed multiple times to establish working IV lines in Christa Pike’s arms before her attempted execution and warned that some of her veins may have ruptured, or “blown”, before she was injected with the lethal drug, her lawyer wrote in a court document filed Thursday. The IV team went through about 10 needles and tried several IV sites on both arms, lawyer Randy Spivey wrote in the document, which provides the most detailed account of the execution attempt so...

Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals, a man and a woman, after they were convicted of committing “indecent acts” in a mosque in the Muslim holy city of Mecca. Bangladesh said it was not informed before the sentences were carried out and has sought information from Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Interior Ministry said the Bangladeshis were executed because of “the gravity and seriousness of their actions in violating the sanctity of both time and place”. It did not elaborate. Saudi Arabia said it executed two Bangladeshis last week for committing an "indecent act" in a mosque.

US President Donald Trump said Thursday that he was cancelling plans to livestream the firing squad execution of a convicted military base shooter – a project that had sparked outrage in the United States. Nidal Hasan is scheduled to be executed on December 3 at Fort Hood in Texas, where he killed 13 people in 2009.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the Pentagon would no longer live stream the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan after the announcement faced bipartisan criticism and Vice-President J.D. Vance said he would not watch it. Trump said on social media that publicly airing the execution “might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan”. But, he continued, “any very good and well meaning people...

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last week announced plans to livestream the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, triggering a backlash among Republicans in Congress, religious leaders and international observers. The event would be extraordinary, even for a country that has long employed capital punishment. A government execution has never been broadcast or livestreamed, according to death penalty experts, and the US military has not executed anyone by firing squad since 1945. FRANCE 24's International Affairs Commentator Douglas Herbert tells us more.

A series of calls, obtained by the Associated Press, reveal emergency services were delayed in reaching Pike.

Archbishop Timothy Broglio says US plan to livestream Fort Hood attacker's execution is contrary to church teachings.

Catholics serving in the US Army should not take part in the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan that the Pentagon is planning to live stream on December 3, a prominent US archbishop said on Monday. In an unusually strongly worded statement, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who oversees the spiritual care of ‌Catholic members of the US armed forces, raised a series of objections to the unprecedented plan to broadcast the execution of Hasan, who killed 13 people at Fort Hood,...

A top Trump administration official said on Sunday that the planned live stream execution of the perpetrator of a mass killing of US soldiers would not pose an additional security risk to the United States. “I don’t see an elevated risk at this point at all because of this,” US Homeland Security chief Markwayne Mullin told CBS News’ Face the Nation, when asked if it risked turning the perpetrator into a martyr for his cause. “I think people need to understand … if you attack America, we will...

Christa Pike's lawyers on Saturday said that the 50-year-old convicted murderer has been discharged from the hospital and returned to prison. Pike was transported to the hospital in critical condition on September 30 after she survived Tennessee's botched effort to execute her for murdering a classmate when she was a teenager.

US President Donald Trump cast doubt on Friday on whether authorities will live-stream the firing squad execution of the perpetrator of a deadly attack on American soldiers, a plan that has drawn broad and bipartisan condemnation. Nidal Hasan’s execution – scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood, Texas, where he gunned down 13 people in 2009 – is set to be the first by a US military firing squad since 1945. A Pentagon official said on Thursday that the execution would be streamed live, after US...

The Pentagon said the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be public and livestreamed.

The planned execution of Nidal Hasan by firing squad would be the first military execution in more than 60 years.

Rights groups and legal experts say the move could endanger minors, who are usually barred from witnessing executions.

A condemned female murderer who survived two lethal injections during a botched execution by the US state of Tennessee was in critical condition and receiving "life-saving care," according to her attorneys. In an extraordinary chain of events, Christa Pike, 50, was whisked from a prison execution chamber to a hospital, still alive despite two deadly doses of pentobarbital. What happened to Pike is "absolute torture," said Sandrine Ageorges-Skinner, Spokesperson for Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM), speaking to FRANCE 24's Alison Sargent.
