Novo grupo A criação do grupo de trabalho estabelece um canal específico para a discussão dos obstáculos comerciais entre Brasil e Estados Unidos. O objetivo é avaliar possíveis soluções e avançar nas negociações sobre um eventual acordo. Em nota, o Mdic explicou que os ministros brasileiros reafirmaram a disposição do governo de buscar soluções por meio do diálogo e da negociação, com foco na defesa dos interesses brasileiros e na ampliação das oportunidades para empresas e setores produtivos dos dois países. A reunião foi descrita pelo governo brasileiro como construtiva. Os dois países reconheceram a necessidade de avançar na superação dos obstáculos existentes e manifestaram disposição para trabalhar na busca de um entendimento. Tarifas em vigor As negociações ocorrem em meio à aplicação de sobretaxas adicionais dos Estados Unidos sobre parte das exportações brasileiras. Em julho, o governo norte-americano anunciou uma tarifa adicional de 25% sobre determinados produtos brasileiros com base na Seção 301 da legislação comercial dos EUA. Outra medida estabeleceu uma sobretaxa adicional de 10% ou 12,5% para importações de países enquadrados pelos Estados Unidos em sua política relacionada ao trabalho forçado. Segundo o Mdic, as duas medidas anunciadas em julho alcançam parcelas das exportações brasileiras. As tarifas são um dos principais pontos da negociação entre os dois governos, que também discutem questões não tarifárias relacionadas ao comércio bilateral. Diálogo retomado A atual rodada de negociações dá continuidade ao processo de aproximação entre os dois governos. Em 21 de agosto, os presidentes Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva e Donald Trump conversaram por telefone, após o que representantes dos dois países retomaram contatos para tratar da relação comercial. Dez dias depois, ministros e representantes técnicos dos dois governos participaram de uma reunião virtual para avançar nas negociações. O encontro desta quarta-feira, em Milwaukee, representa a etapa presencial desse processo. Próximos passos O próximo passo será o envio, pelos Estados Unidos, do documento que deverá estabelecer o escopo dos trabalhos. A partir dessa proposta, o grupo de trabalho deverá discutir os temas tarifários e não tarifários e avaliar possibilidades de entendimento entre os dois países.
